Members of the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety approved the requests of two non-profits during their meeting Monday.

Chris Garner, Director of the Marshall County Neighborhood Center told the Board of Public Works and Safety they will be celebrating the center’s 40th anniversary on July 30th.  They plan on having a 40 & 40 campaign and would like to end with a celebration and party on the street from 4 till 7 p.m.

The request before the board was to close Plum Street at the Garro Street intersection and Plum Street south to the Garden Court drive and Garro Street to the alley.  Garner said they plan to have some food trucks on the street and some other activities for both clients and the community along with an open house of the newly renovated building.

Board members asked the police chief if there was any concern with closing off the streets and he said no.  The Board of Public Works and Safety unanimously approved the request.

The board heard a second request from Viki Cullen Brown the Director of Dustin’s Place.  They are planning their 3rd annual 5K and Family Fun Run on Saturday, April 23rd beginning at 9 a.m. at Dustin’s Place at 11802 Lincoln Highway east of Plymouth.  Viki said they will be using the same route they have done the past two years.

Brown said the first year they had 72 racers and last year that number increased to 153.  Currently, with a month to go, they already have 120 registered. She said they will use volunteers to assist at street crossings.

The board also unanimously approved this request.
