The Plymouth Lions Club held their annual Christmas Banquet in December at Christos Banquet Center. A delicious meal was enjoyed by all who attended.
Lion Doug Feece surprised Plymouth Lions Club President, Ken Lukenbill with a special award, the Melvin Jones Award. Lions Clubs world-wide recognize outstanding individuals by bestowing on them an award that is named after its founder Melvin Jones. This award is the highest form of recognition and embodies humanitarian ideas consistent with the nature and purpose of Lionism. Before there were more than 1.4 million members of Lions Club around the world, there was one man with a vision. He was a salesman from Chicago, Illinois named Melvin Jones. Driven by a dynamic personality, and a heart filled with kindness, he helped create a service movement over 100 years ago that is still thriving today.
The Plymouth Lions Club is proud of their work during this past year. They served over 300 children in the Kid Sight program in Plymouth and Argos Schools and preschools. They have assisted with eyeglasses for five Plymouth and Bremen school children. They also collect eyeglasses for recycling. They provide dictionaries for all third grades in Plymouth schools. They support the Lions state projects. In addition, they build ramps for the disadvantaged and provide two scholarships for two graduating high school seniors and contribute to a third, plus donate money to various organizations.
