On Monday, December 6, at approximately 5:30 in the evening the Marshall County Central Dispatch Center dispatched an officer with the Culver Police Department to a Hit and Run accident within the Culver area. Culver Police were advised the victim of the accident was following the suspect vehicle which was described as silver passenger car. The county dispatch center maintained contact with the reporter, who was able to provide updated locations and directions of travel.
Culver Officer Chad Becker located the suspect vehicle with the victim still following near the Marshall and Fulton County line and attempted to stop the vehicle.
The driver of the silver passenger car fled law enforcement leading officers in a vehicle pursuit in multiple counties which included Fulton, Pulaski, and Marshall Counties.
During the pursuit, tire deflation devices were deployed on two separate occasions partially disabling the suspect’s vehicle, however the driver continued with operating the vehicle without stopping. On three different occasions during the pursuit, the suspect’s vehicle came into contact with the Culver police vehicle, resulting in damage to the patrol vehicle.
After attempting to elude the police for approximately 30 minutes, the driver was taken into custody in a parking lot near the intersection of State Road 10 and Lakeshore Drive, Culver.
The driver was identified as 21-year-old Christian Sanderson with a prior address of Monterey.
Sanderson was taken into custody without further incident. He was initially incarcerated in the Marshall County jail for charges of Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle, Operating a Vehicle without Ever Receiving a License, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident. Mr. Sanderson was also held for another agency for an active felony related warrant.
A report will be filed with the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office for formal charges and review of additional charges related to information obtained during the investigation of this incident.
Information pertaining to this release is based on probable cause to believe the allegations have been committed. Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty within proper court proceeding.
