U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-Ind.) spoke in strong opposition to the Democrats’ radical “abortion on demand” legislation that would override pro-life laws in Indiana and around the country to allow for abortion at any time, under any circumstance.

On the House Floor, Congresswoman Walorski recounted the horrific actions of Indiana abortionist Dr. Ulrich “George” Klopfer who provided abortions in Indiana for decades. After his death in 2019, Klopfer’s family discovered the medically-persevered remains of 2,411 children hidden in a garage. As a pro-life leader in Congress, Rep. Walorski has worked to expose Klopfer’s deadly practices and prevent future atrocities.

“The Democrats’ effort to advance ‘abortion on demand’ across the nation could be the most consequential legislation of my lifetime…In Indiana, Dr. Klopfer had countless victims – both unborn babies and mothers – and he represents a grotesque violation of human dignity that American society should not and cannot tolerate,” said Congresswoman Walorski. “We have an obligation to the next generation to oppose this extreme anti-life effort and to uphold the sanctity of life… Science is on our side, and the truth is on our side. Our enduring commitment to life will prevail.”

The Democrats’ legislation, H.R. 3755, would override pro-life laws around the country to allow for abortion for any reason and at stage of pregnancy up until birth. This radical bill:

  • Allows for discriminatory abortions on the basis of a baby’s sex, race, and disability.
  • Overrides pro-life laws and prohibits states from enacting legislation that protects unborn children, such as protections for babies with Down syndrome and other disabilities.
  • Removes protections for women and children. For example, it would not allow states to enact laws to ensure parental involvement for minors or laws to protect women from coercion.
  • Includes vague language that could also weaken conscience protections for medical professionals and limit their right to refuse to participate in an abortion.

Mr. Speaker, this week the House is considering radical legislation that would unravel fundamental human rights and obliterate pro-life laws across our nation.

The Democrats’ effort to advance “abortion on demand” across the nation could be the most consequential legislation of my lifetime.

Much has changed since the Supreme Court decided Roe v. Wade in 1973. Four decades later, our medical capabilities and understanding is far better. And, with incredible advancements in modern sonograms and imaging, there can be no doubt that a child in the womb is a living person deserving of life.

And yet, in this moment we are about to embark on the biggest step back in our nation’s history.

Right now, lives are on the line.

Some of this bill’s supporters like to call pro-life Americans and our convictions extreme. But, I have seen extreme.

At home in South Bend, Indiana, I saw what an extreme abortionist can do – and it is sickening beyond words.

Dr. Ulrich “George” Klopfer provided abortions in Indiana for decades. When he died in 2019, his family found the medically-preserved remains of 2,411 children hidden in his garage. That’s nearly 2,500 human beings.

Law enforcement officials believe that the remains were gathered from his so-called medical practices in Indiana between 2000 and 2003.

Dr. Klopfer had countless victims – both unborn babies and mothers – and he represents a grotesque violation of human dignity that American society should not and cannot tolerate. This abortionist revealed a callous disregard for life.

If that isn’t extreme, I don’t know what is.

Every human life is precious, and every person deserves dignity. We have an obligation to the next generation to oppose this extreme anti-life effort and to uphold the sanctity of life.

I am proud to join with millions of pro-life Americans to oppose “abortion on demand” and to defend the right to life. Science is on our side, and the truth is on our side.  Our enduring commitment to life will prevail.
