With great excitement and enthusiasm Sheriff Matt Hassel has announced that he will seek the Republican nomination for the office of Marshall County Sheriff in May 2022.

In a news release Hassel said, “It has been a privilege and an honor to serve the Marshall County Community for the past six years as Sheriff and I would like the opportunity to continue my service to you. We are so fortunate to have a wonderful and safe county in which to live, and I want to do my best to maintain and improve on that; always working to enhance our quality of life here.”  

Sheriff Hassel is a fifty-year resident of Marshall County.  He graduated from Bremen High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Indiana State University. Hassel have been married for thirty-four years to his wife, Jill, and they have one son, Tanner, who is a graduate of Vincennes University.

In addition to serving the citizens of Marshall County as Sheriff since 2015, Hassel said he has acquired the skills and expertise needed to keep our county safe.  He said, “My qualifications and accomplishments include 33-years’ service on the Bremen Police Department, 14 years as Chief of Police, 20 years on the Marshall County Council, 19 years as the Marshall County Deputy Coroner and 2 ½ years’ service as a Turnkey/Dispatcher for the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.”  He went on to say,  “My vast knowledge of the inner workings of county government will help lead Marshall County safely into the future.”

Closing his comments Hassel said, “Running for and being elected Sheriff has been a long-time goal and dream of mine.
