U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) today voted against the Democrats’ reckless tax-and-spend spree that would saddle the American people with $4.2 trillion. The Democrats’ budget resolution was initially projected to spend a staggering $3.5 trillion, but the final version included nearly $700 billion in additional spending and increased interest on the debt.
“From the first moment this reckless budget was unveiled, I was against it. There’s a difference between smart, targeted investments that have long-term positive results and the out-of-control spending Democrats want for their socialist agenda. It is especially regrettable that Speaker Pelosi insisted on tying infrastructure to the massive tax-and-spend bill that Democrats intend to ram through as soon as they pass the budget. This left-wing wish list will only raise taxes and hurt American families,” said Senator Young.
The left-wing wish list includes, according to Senate Democrats, creating a Civilian Climate Corps, investments in “environmental justice”, tax relief for millionaires, amnesty for illegal immigrants, and labor law changes that would eliminate the gig economy and franchises.
Senator Young introduced an amendment to the budget resolution, the Not One Penny in Taxes Raised amendment, which would require Congress to uphold the Biden-Harris Administration’s repeated promise to not raise a single penny in taxes on anyone making less than $400,000 per year. The amendment passed 98-1 and Senator Young intends to hold Democrats to this important pledge when the reckless tax-and-spend reconciliation bill comes to the Senate floor in the coming months.
