CourthouseWard Byers, the Director of Community Corrections took steps on Monday to protect his staff and the community from inmates being released from the Marshall County Jail that are COVID-19 positive.

Byers spoke to the three Marshall County judges on Monday about his concerns with the coronavirus outbreak and with the county moving to the RED rating.

At his urging the Judges of Marshall County issued an Order to the Sheriff that no inmate is to be released to Community Corrections without first testing negative for COVID 19.  The order requires any individual who is incarcerated and is to be released to the care of Marshall County Community Corrections for supervision must test negative for COVID-19 prior to release from the Marshall County Jail.  This order will remain in effect until further notice.

The order was signed by Superior Court I Judge Robert Bowen, Superior Court II Judge Dean Colvin and Circuit Court Curtis Palmer.
