BarnQuilt_Lakehouse_1Cori Humes, Executive Director of Marshall County Tourism was excited Friday to unveil the newest Barn Quilt in Marshall County.

The Marshall County Barn Quilt Trail, which is a series of large murals painted in a variety of quilt patterns on barns, businesses and public spaces throughout Marshall County, celebrates the history of agriculture, time-honored tradition of quilting, the community’s passion for art, community pride and Hoosier Hospitality.

BarnQuilt_Lakehouse_3Friday morning the barn quilt at the Lakehouse Grille in Culver was dedicated.  The barn quilt was designed by volunteers Thom and Connie Kleckner of Plymouth with assistance by John Bickle of Culver and Lakehouse Grille owner, Mark Damore Jr.

BarnQuilt_Lakehouse_2The 8 by 8 mural overlooks the patio seating area at the Lakehouse and features a unique design with a raised 4 by 4 featuring a specially designed sailboat.

Humes told those gathered, “The Barn Quilt Trail is the third largest draw to Marshall County, right behind the Blueberry Festival and Lake Maxinkuckee.”  There are over 75 barn quilts spread throughout the county with no two having the same design.

BarnQuilt_Lakehouse_4Mark Damore said they haven’t named the Barn Quilt yet.  He plans to hold a public contest using social media to select the winning name which he anticipates will have Culver or Maxinkuckee in the name.
