County News_logoThis week the Marshall County Commissioners approved the request of Ward Byers, Director of Community Corrections to apply for state funding in 2018 through the grant process.

Byers will apply for a grant from the Indiana Department of Corrections for $335,023.63 for the 2018 budget although since the DOC approves the budget that amount could go down.

This grant will not only cover personnel costs but fund the jail treatment programs that will provide services to level 6 convicted felons that remain in the county jail.   Byers explained that Bowen Center will be providing some services to inmates and with additional technology he plans to offer a GED program later this year.

In December the Community Corrections Advisory Board approved the grant application and the County Commissioner put their support to it too.  The County Council unanimously approved applying for the state grant on Monday.
