Several new courses will be added the offerings at Plymouth High School for the 2017-2018 school year. Descriptions of the proposed courses were presented to the school board on November 1st by Principal Jim Condon. The board approved the new classes on a vote of 4-0-1. New board member, Robin Cupka, abstained from the vote.
Condon said the new courses create some new opportunities in science, add vocational options, and add to social studies offerings. He said, “We hope to broaden our enrollment.”
Chemistry II will be offered to students who have successfully completed both Chemistry I and Algebra II.
AP(Advanced Placement) Chemistry will be open to those who have completed Chemistry I, Algebra II, and Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry.
Physics I will be recommended to students in grades 9, 10 and 11 who have passed both Algebra I and Algebra II.
Students in grades 11 and 12 who have completed Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources will be offered Sustainable Energy Alternatives.
AP Microeconomics will be recommended to students in grades 11 and 12. Although there are no listed prerequisites, students should be able to read a college level textbook and write grammatically correct.
Calculus B-C Si’’ follow Calculus A-B. The course is recommended for students in grades 11-12.
Three C.T.E. courses were approved. Those career classes provide extra funding from the state to school corporation.
Principles of Marketing is a C.T.E. funded course providing a basic introduction to the importance of marketing in a global market.
Transportation is also a C.T.E. introductory course for students in grade 10. Part of the description of the course states that the course includes the study of how transportation impacts individuals, society, and the environment.
Computer Science Ii: Programming will be recommended to students in grade 12-12. Students must have completed Computer Science I.
