After much consideration and discussion with fellow committee members, Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter has decided to disband the Downtown Revitalization Committee.
Over the years, the committee has served as an important forum for discussing ideas for moving Plymouth’s downtown forward. The group’s first task was to serve as a clearinghouse for ideas during the development of River Park Square. Mayor Senter said, “I know that the group’s early work helped to positively shape the RPS project into what it is today.”
In recent years, the group has been reinvigorated. Moving the meetings back downtown no doubt helped with that energy and much credit has to be given to George Shricker for graciously hosting our meetings at Wild Rose Moon.Over the last two years, the community has been very engaged and focused on the downtown. Many people have done a lot of work. The Mayor said, “Our little think tank has been right there in the middle of this flurry of activity.” He continued, “The Indiana Main Street presentation and the presentation by Amy Walker’s LJH students stick out to me as spots where the group recently shined. With all that being said and with all the momentum that has built in the downtown, our committee seems to have run its course.” Discover Plymouth (Indiana Main Street’s newest member) is now going strong bringing lots of exciting programming to the downtown. The Discover Plymouth leadership agrees with this move.
The Plymouth Industrial Development Corporation, the Park Board and the Redevelopment Commission each supplied two members from their organizations to be a part of the Revitalization Committee. Mayor Senter thanked current members Allie Shook, Jack Davis, Tom Pedavoli, Melissa Christiansen, George Schricker and Chairman Dave Morrow. Former members Dan Tyree, Bob Beiter, Mark Gidley and Brent Martin are to be commended as well.
