Counterfeit-moneyThe Starke County Sheriff’s Office has experienced some circulation of counterfeit bills being passed in the area. The most common being passed is the one-hundred dollar bill.

The Starke County Sheriff Bill Dulin would like to encourage the public and business community specifically to examine the money they receive, especially larger denomination bills for authenticity. Dulin said, “Most counterfeit bills, when examined closely are clearly identifiable as counterfeit just by the poor quality of printing.”  He said another way to detect a counterfeit bill is to use a Counterfeit Detector Pen which is commonly available at most office supply store.

If you are unsure of the authenticity of a bill, it was suggested to air on the side of caution and simply decline to accept the bill.

If a person or business would locate a counterfeit bill please contact the you local authorities or the Starke County Sheriff’s Office.    772-3771
