The Plymouth Community School Corporation is dealing with the untimely deaths of two young students and has services available to students who were impacted by the loss of these classmates.

Sixth-grade student Hailey Huffman attended Riverside Intermediate School and passed away this weekend.

In a Facebook post, they say, “Our entire school community’s thoughts and sympathies are with Hailey’s family and friends during this difficult time.”

The post says Hailey loved to draw and enjoyed arts and crafts. She was a science enthusiast, a friend to many, and a proud member of the orchestra as a violin player. Hailey was a writer—for a recent essay, she wrote a 21-page story, 19 pages longer than the teacher’s expectation. She was the definition of going above and beyond.

Webster Elementary School’s first grader, Carter King, passes away peacefully surrounded by his family.  Carter bravely fought DIPG for 17 months and 3 weeks.

In a Facebook post, they say that Carter was diagnosed with DIPG in the summer of 2022 and showed incredible courage during his battle. The post said, “He had such an infectious smile and brought so much joy to everyone. He was a lover of all things Star Wars and airplanes, had incredible drawing skills, and didn’t go many places without his beloved beanie baby ‘Chip’ by his side.”

Dustin’s Place, Bowen Center, and the PSCS counselors are available for students and families who need to express their grief during this difficult time. Additional resources for parents are also available through the school.

Parents with students in Webster School can seek further assistance or get answers to questions or concerns by contacting Counselor Erin Hartley at ehartley@plymouth.k12.in.us or Principal Brooke Busse at bbusse@plymouth.k12.in.us.  Parents may also call Webster Elementary directly.

Memorial information will be shared when available.

Parents with students at Riverside Intermediate School who have concerns can contact school Counselor Tara Miller at tmiller@plymouth.k12.in.us, Principal Kyle Coffman at kcoffman@plymouth.k12.in.us,  or call Riverside directly.

The Plymouth Community School Corporation Administration extends its deepest sympathies to Hailey and Carter’s families and friends and asks that you respect their privacy at this time.
