Last week the Marshall County Board of Zoning Appeals considered the Variance of Development Standard request from Christopher Oginsky of 18616 6B Road in Plymouth.
Chris was seeking a variance to reduce the front yard setback from the required 50 feet to 20 feet to rebuild and expand an 8-foot by 29-foot covered front porch on the home.
County Plan Director Ty Adley told BZA members the project will replace a failing and unsafe front porch. The previous porch was 14 feet by 18 feet at the largest point. He said the home sits approximately 30 feet from the road right-of-way line and 40 feet from the roadway. The project would reduce the setback from the right-of-way line by 6 feet.
The Plan Commission staff and the Technical Review Committee both recommended approval of the variance.
There were no comments during the public hearing and members of the Marshall County Board of Zoning Appeals unanimously approved the variance request.
Plan Director Ty Adley asked BZA members if they would consider moving their meetings on the second Tuesday of each month to an earlier time than the current 7:30 p.m. He said he would want both the BZA and Plan Commission meetings to begin at the same time as they do now.
County BZA members were agreeable to moving the meeting to a 7 p.m. start but didn’t feel that an earlier time would allow the public a chance to get home from work, eat, and be able to get to the meeting. Adley will address the same question to the Plan Commission members and report back.
