On Tuesday, September 12, at approximately 2:52 p.m., emergency personnel in both Fulton and Marshall County were dispatched to a two-vehicle personal injury accident at U.S. 31 and State Road 110.

Preliminary investigation by Senior Deputy with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department, Matt Craig revealed a 2017 Toyota Rav 4 driven by Darci Zolman, age 67 of Pierceton, was traveling east on State Road 110 crossing northbound U.S. 31.

Ms. Zolman pulled into the path of a northbound 2016 Ram 1500 driven by Stephen Bontrager, 67, of Shipshewana, and was struck.

Ms. Zolman was seriously injured in the crash and was flown from the scene by Parkview Samaritan to a trauma center. Her current condition is unknown.

Mr. Bontrager was transported to Woodlawn Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts which no doubt contributed to the survivability of the crash.

Northbound U.S. 31 was closed at S.R. 110 for approximately 2 ½ hours.

The crash remains under investigation. Assisting the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office at the scene were multiple emergency responders from both Fulton and Marshall County.
