Dustin’s Place Executive Director Viki Brown requested permission from the County Commissioners earlier this month to allow the Marshall County SOFR, Suicide, Overdose, and Fatality Review (SOFR) Team to hold an event on the Courthouse lawn Thursday, August 31st from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Brown told the commissioners the SOFR Team started in February and one of their recommendations is to partner with Michiana Recovery and bring overdose awareness to the county on National Overdose Awareness Day, August 31st.
The request from SOFR is to provide resources for suicide and overdose prevention and celebrate recovery in a lunchtime event on the Courthouse lawn for the public to attend.
The event will be a partnership with Dustin’s Place, David’s Courage, Bowen Center, and Michiana Recovery
Commissioner Mike Burroughs moved, second by Stan Klotz, to allow the event to be held on the Courthouse lawn Thursday, August 31st from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. contingent upon approval by the Judges. The motion passed with a 2-0 vote. Commissioner Kevin Overmyer was absent from the meeting.
