Friday evening’s, Mayor’s Month of Music in River Park Square started at 6 p.m. with the PHS Alumni.

Mayor Mark Senter greeted the large crowd that was gathered in the park and thanked the various businesses that donated to sponsor Mayor’s Month of Music this year.  He then introduced Jan Boos Beam, organizer of the PHS Alumni.  Jan recognized the many classes who came to Mayor’s Month of Music to gather with their classmates for their reunions, some of whom erected canopies making special areas for their classes.

Last year the PHS Distinguished Hall of Fame award was presented to Randy Danielson, class of 1972, and Donna Pontius, class of 1969 for co-chairing the REES project.  Friday evening, Pontius and Don Wendel, class of 1974 gave a brief update on the status of the REES project.  Then, on behalf of the PHS Alumni in the Park, they presented a plaque to Mayor Senter for his dedication to the City of Plymouth and a gift to Laura Banning Mann who has been instrumental in organizing these events.

Bean then introduced Mike Delp, class of 1973, and Bob Danielson, class of 1958 who introduced the recipient of the PHS Distinguished Hall of Fame Award.  The award was presented to William (Bill) Nixon.  Bill was a graduate of PHS (Lincoln) in 1958 and went on to Ball State.  Bill graduated from Ball State in 1962 with a BS and went on to Fort Wayne to the University of St. Francis for his master’s degree. After college, Bill Nixon came back to Plymouth and began his teaching at PHS in 1966 as a history teacher, then on to coach baseball and football, and later as appointed the PHS Athletic Director.  In 1977, Coach Nixon was awarded the Indiana Football Coach of the Year.  On May 4, 1996, the baseball diamond at Centennial Park was dedicated as Bill Nixon Field, and in 2007 the Bill Nixon Wing of the Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame in Jasper was opened.

The Alumni portion of the evening closed with Jan Bean announcing next year’s event.  It will be held on August 2nd.  She also mentioned that Mayor Senter is retiring and the two candidates for Mayor, Robert Listenberger and Greg Compton are both PHS Alumni.

The Bishops then took the stage to entertain for the evening.  They were sponsored by U.S. Granules.
