On Sunday, July 30th, at 8:36 P.M. Marshall County Central Dispatch received a report of a 10-month-old child that had been burned by cooking oil. During the 911 call, it was learned that the child was already being transported to Bremen Hospital in a private vehicle.

The private vehicle was then directed to the LaPaz McDonalds to meet with emergency responders that were being dispatched to that location to intercept them.

First responders from LaPaz Fire, Lakeville/LaPaz EMS, and the Marshall County Police Department met with the vehicle in LaPaz and began treatment of the child there.

A helicopter was summoned to the scene by first responders and later landed near the LaPaz McDonalds. The child was then transported to the University of Chicago Hospital for treatment and care and is currently in stable condition.

An investigation of the child’s injuries was conducted by officers from the Marshall County Police Department. During the investigation, it was learned that the injuries the child had suffered happened at a residence in the 1,000 block of Union Road near Walkerton.

Witness statements and physical evidence observed at the residence during the initial investigation show that the burn injury to the child was accidental in nature.

The investigation is still pending at this time.
