The Bowen Center plans to construct a new facility at the southwest corner of U.S. 30 and Pioneer Drive on lots 9 and 10in VanVactor Farms Inc. Planned Unit Development, Phase IV.

This month the Marshall County Drainage Board had to consider the Bowen Center’s request for several variances along the north side of the Newcomb Eisenhour Ditch and the west and south sides of the Schuh Tile in preparation for their construction project.

County Surveyor Craig Cultice told the drainage board he worked with the engineer to make the project work for the Bowen Center and the county.

The county requires a 75-foot unobstructed setback from the top of the ditch or tile.  The variance on the Schuh Tile along U.S. 30 ranges from 20.5 to 26.3 feet from the parking lot pavement.  Along Pioneer Drive, the variance along the Schuh Tile is 59.9 feet and the variance on the Newcomb Eisenhour Ditch along Miller Drive ranges from 30 feet to 33.2 feet from the ditch to the landscaping.

The County Drainage Board approved the variances with the understanding that the Bowen Center will be responsible to pay for any damages to their property during any county maintenance project.
