The Marshall County Dispatch Center received a call of a train versus car accident on State Road 10 west of Nutmeg Road on Saturday, July 8th at about 11 p.m.
County Police responded to the scene and determined the driver of the 2018 Dodge Journey was Ian Bastin, 31, of Plymouth. Police determined he went around the lighted crossing arms as the train approached. The train struck the vehicle causing the engine to come out separately from the vehicle.
Ian Bastin was able to make it to the roadway and was taken to Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Agencies involved in the crash and investigation included the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Argos Police, Fire, and EMS, and the Norfolk Southern Railroad Police.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
