Wednesday morning Governor Holcomb signed Senate Bill 4 with many invited guests in attendance including Marshall County Commissioner Kevin Overmyer.

Senate Bill 4 authored by Senators Ed Charbonneau, Jean Leising, and Chip Perfect is known as the “health bill.”  Charbonneau said the bill moves more toward preventing illness than just treating it.  He said his bill addresses the infrastructure of public health – which has long been underserved.  The bill provides that the state department may provide services to local health departments. It requires each local board of health to establish a local public health services fund to receive state funding.  Senate Bill 4 allows the local health department to enter into contracts or approve grants for core public health services.

In March, three County Commissioners testified during the hearing on Senate Bill 4.  Marshall County Commissioner, Kevin Overmyer was one of the three commissioners who testified.

For Wednesday’s signing event, the three commissioners who testified were invited to attend as Governor Holcomb signed Senate Bill 4.
