Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel told the Marshall County Commissioners on Monday that he has recently hired a turnkey/dispatcher for his department with 14 years of experience.  The person was a police, fire, and EMS dispatcher for the Town of Bremen.

Sheriff Hassel said, “I would like to offer her a partial lateral transfer.”  He proposed that her annual vacation days be set as a 14-year employee and her annual longevity be paid as a 14-year employee.

The sheriff said we’ve discussed lateral transfers several years ago and you said you would consider it on a case-by-case basis.

Hassel said he understood that the longevity proposal would have to go before the County Council too.

Commissioners Stan Klotz asked Attorney Clevenger if this would be a change in the handbook policy.  Clevenger said it would be a change in policy.

Commissioner Mike Burroughs asked if the request should go through the Personnel Committee and Commissioner Klotz agreed.  Commissioner Overmyer said if allowed that would require a change to the handbook.

Commissioner Klotz said they would need a recommendation from the Personnel Committee before supporting the proposal.
