The Indiana Department of Transportation has invited special guests and representatives to participate in the groundbreaking ceremony for the railroad overpass project on U.S. 31 this Friday.
The contractor for the project is Phend & Brown Inc. They will construct new bridges on U.S. 31 over the Elkhart Western Railroad between 13th and 14th Roads south of Plymouth. Lane closures are already in place and the rights-of-way have been cleared of brush. The cost of this project is $28.7 million.
This is National Work Zone Awareness Week and INDOT says this project will take two construction seasons to complete. Motorists should be prepared for long-term lane closures between 13th and 14th Roads. INDOT encourages drivers to allow extra time when driving through this area and follow traffic directions carefully. Motorists should slow down, exercise caution and drive distraction-free through all work zones.
