PLYMOUTH — Plymouth High School has announced that former CMA girls head soccer coach Nathaniel King will take over the girls program at Plymouth.
“Coach King brings experience, energy and history of coaching excellence to Lady Rockies’ sideline,” said Plymouth AD Michaels Delp. “We are beyond excited to have him join our current staff who have been working very hard this off season to build the base for growth and improvement for not only this coming year but for many years to come.”
“Coach King and his family have settled into the Plymouth area and we are grateful to have someone leading our student athletes who has his combination of playing experience, coaching expertise and leadership training,” said Delp. “The future is very, very bright for the Lady Rockies.”
After playing soccer collegiately and semi-professionally, King started his educational career in 2007 at Culver Academies as an internship fellow in the Wellness Department and coached Track and Field, working closely with the sprinters as well as serving as assistant JV coach and quickly being promoted to head varsity coach for CGA soccer.
Upon completing his fellowship, King was hired
full-time as a Wellness Instructor contributing to the development of the ninth and tenth grade Wellness curriculums.
As an assistant coach, he helped guide the Culver track and field teams to IHSAA sectional championships and state-finals appearances, and as head coach, he lead CGA Soccer to three sectional championships (’08, ’09, ’10), one regional championship (’08,), as well as Culver’s first ever semi-state championship and state championship appearance (’08).
In addition, King helped develop nine of his players to go on to play at the collegiate level.
In 2014, King departed Culver to pursue opportunities to continue developing
professionally as a coach, educator, and administrator.
Following his time at Culver, he coached for the Colorado Rapids Youth Soccer Club (’14-15), and then assumed a role in admissions and head academy coach at Shattuck St. Mary’s School (MN, ’15-18) where he achieved one conference championship, one regional championship, and one state final appearance.
After moving on from Shattuck St. Mary’s, he transitioned into the sports industry and education administration, holding positions as a program director at Kids America, Inc.(’18-19) and school leader and principal of Fugees Academy (’18).
In 2019, King rejoined Culver Academies serving as a CMA counselor and CGA Soccer Head Coach and picked up another IHSAA Soccer Sectional Championship (‘20), one Regional Championship (‘20) and reached the Final Four (‘20) before making a transition into public school administration as assistant principal at LaVille Elementary.
King currently servesas the Director of Student Services and Leadership at the Stanley Clark School in South Bend, Indiana. He has two degrees in Physical Education and Biology from St. Joseph’s College (IN) and Human Biology and Sport Science from St. Mary’s University, Twickenham, London, UK, and is a licensed school principal with a master’s in Educational Leadership.
Nathaniel is a professionally licensed coach through the United States Soccer Federation, United Soccer Coaches, English Football Association, USA Track and Field, YMCA Fitness, Major League Soccer, and TRX.
Intotal, King has been working in education for 17 years, has over 18 years of soccer playing experience, and 12 years experience of coaching at the high school, club, residential academy, collegiate, and international levels. He has developed over 40 student-athletes for the collegiate level and three national team players (USWNT and South Africa).
