The Culver Town Council conducted a special meeting Tuesday evening to correct a clerical error on the 2023 budget.

The adopted tax rate for the Cumulative Capital Development Fund was approved at 0.0043 instead of 0.0427 meaning the town could have only collected about $9,000 instead of the needed income of $89,190.

Culver Clerk-Treasurer Karen Heim told WTCA she had entered the assessed value for Culver in billions instead of millions.

The Department of Local Government Finance (DLGF) has an approved way to correct budgetary issues, so the Culver Town Council passed a resolution rescinding the 2023 budget ordinance with the wrong tax rate and then passed a new ordinance on all three readings with the amended 2023 budget and correct tax rate for the Cum Cap Development Fund.

The clerical error was corrected, and the budget will be ready for 2023.

The entire correction process took less than 5 minutes.
