Officer Wallace with the Plymouth Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a 2011 Ford Fusion Thursday, August 4th at State Road 17 and Glenn Overmyer Drive at about 3:45 in the morning. 

The vehicle failed to stop and fled south on State Road 17 towards Culver.  At times, the vehicle reached speeds of 115 mph.

The driver, 33-year-old Brett M. Kersey of Peach Road in Plymouth lost control of the vehicle at the intersection of State Road 17 and Sycamore Road and crashed the vehicle west of Sycamore Road.

The crash investigation revealed that Kersey was operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The female passenger in the vehicle was transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for treatment. Kersey was incarcerated at the Marshall County Jail for the following Operating While Intoxicated Endangering, Reckless Driving, and Resisting Law Enforcement.  He was held on a $1,500 cash bond. 

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
