Saint Joseph Health System, Mishawaka Medical Center has been recognized as high performing in five conditions and procedures by U.S. News & World Report in the magazine’s 2022-2023 Best Hospitals rankings. The adult procedure and condition categories include chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), hip replacement, kidney failure, knee replacement and stroke. This is the highest award a hospital can earn for U.S. News’ Best Hospitals Procedures & Conditions ratings. The annual Procedures & Conditions ratings are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or elective procedures. To be recognized as high performing specialty, a program must rank among the top 10% in the country. According to Shawn P. Vincent, CEO, Saint Joseph Health System, “Saint Joseph Health System is proud to accept this recognition on behalf of our hardworking physicians, providers and clinical teams who support and partner with patients in need of hip or knee replacement, or care for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, kidney failure or acute stroke.”

For the 2022-2023 rankings and ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 hospitals across 15 specialties and 20 procedures and conditions. The U.S. News Procedures & Conditions methodology is based entirely on objective measures of quality such as survival rates, patient experience, and how successfully each hospital helps patients get back home.
