Members of the Marshall County Board of Zoning Appeals heard the request of Frederickson Commercial Investments at 2162 U.S. 6 in Bremen, zoned Agricultural 1.

The campground will reface the current sign but wants to add a 4 x 8-foot electronic message board instead of the static letter board.  Since the property is zoned agricultural but the venture there is commercial a variance is needed to the electronic portion of the sign.

During the public hearing, there were no comments and the County BZA unanimously approved the variance request.

Nathan Kauffman is seeking a permit for a home-based business at 5593 Fir Road in Bremen.  He told the BZA they plan to improve the current homestead by tearing down the existing farmhouse and building a new home and constructing a shop for their construction business.  Currently, 2 family members and 4 other employees work for the company.  The plan is to hire 2 to 3 additional employees in the next 5 to 8 years.  They will farm the current property in tandem.

During the public hearing, Jennifer Holmes had some questions about the visual impact since Kauffman said the building would be for storage.  Her concern was lots of equipment and materials sitting outside.

Members of the Marshall County BZA approved the request with the limitation of no outside storage of building materials.
