North Central Career and Technical Education Aviation Program, which is held at the Plymouth Airport had the opportunity recently to spend the day at the South Bend International Airport. Twenty-five local students from area school corporations that are a part of the CTE Aviation program were given tours in a variety of sectors of the running of our regional airport and to see firsthand the job opportunities available to students in the Aviation career path.

Students toured the workings of the luggage area, TSA checkpoint areas, and the Airport Fire Department located on the airport grounds. The group also got to speak to the head of the Aviation Maintenance Department to hear about the need for aviation maintenance personnel not only in our area but around the country.

The Aviation Flight Program is offered through the Technical Education Program for immersive learning at the Plymouth Airport in partnership with AlphaFlight. This two-year program allows students to take Aviation Flight and Airport Operations in the second year.

The North Central CTE program is open to juniors and seniors who are on track with graduation within the Career and Technical Education Co-Op. Schools include Argos, Culver Community, John Glenn, Knox, LaVille, North Judson-San Pierre, Oregon Davis, Plymouth, Rochester, and Triton.

Aviation is just one of the many CTE opportunities for our local students. Automotive Technology, Building Trades, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, and Hospitality, Early Childhood Education, Health Science Education, Graphics Imaging, Industrial Automation and Robotics, Precision Machining, and Welding Technology. You can learn more about these extraordinary programs for our students on the Plymouth Community Schools website.
