Thomas E. Hammel, age 94, formerly of Plymouth, living in Indianapolis for the past 16 years, passed away on Wednesday morning, April 6, 2022 at Life’s Journey Hospice in Avon, IN.

Thomas was born on November 27, 1927 in Plymouth, IN to Alfred and Mary Hammel. He grew up on Cook Lake. On February 3, 1948 he married Dorothy Jane Lawrence and they were married for 68 years until her death in 2016. Tom was a dairy farmer for 20 years and retired from Citrus Hill – Proctor and Gamble in Plymouth, IN in 1990. Tom enjoyed woodworking as a hobby and a rocking horse, cradle, and wagon-wheel flower boxes were a few of his many projects. He also loved gardening, fishing and reading.

Tom and Dorothy loved to travel and took trips to Hawaii, England, France, Germany, Switzerland and may other destinations all over the United States. 

Thomas is survived by his son, Steve (Mary) Hammel of Argos, IN; his daughter, Diane Hammel of Indianapolis, IN; his granddaughter, Brenda (Dave) Anderson of Bourbon, IN; and his grandson, Scott (Lori) Hammel of Plymouth, IN.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; his sister, Virginia Hoesel; his brother, Roger Hammel; his granddaughter, Susan Marie Hammel; and his grandson, Todd Bull.

A private family funeral for Thomas will be held in the Deaton-Clemens Van Gilder Funeral Home in Plymouth, IN. Burial will immediately follow in the New Oak Hill Cemetery (Plymouth, IN). In lieu of flowers, please consider ma021012king a donation to your favorite charity in Tom’s name.
