Members of the Marshall County Council considered the additional appropriation request of Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel to replace the hot water heater at the jail during their meeting on Monday.

Dynamic Mechanical Services from Mishawaka offered a quote to replace the existing heater with two new RBI non-condensing 750,000 BTU boilers with three 200-gallon tanks. They will provide the labor and materials to remove the existing boiler, but it will need to be shut down and drained before the removal. Dynamic will also need the assistance of the county’s fork-lift for the removal.

The quote was $86,311. Sheriff Hassel recommended using the Special LIT Fund to cover the cost of the project.

The project will take several days to complete. Dynamic Mechanical Services plans to work 12 to 14 hour days to get the hot water back in service. It was estimated the project will take 3 to 4 days to complete.

The County Council approved the Sheriff’s additional appropriation request.
