County News # 1During the March meeting of the County Council, Highway Superintendent Jason Peters asked them to amend the 2021 Salary Ordinance as it pertains to the hourly pay for Area Leaders and Heavy Equipment Operators.

The council’s personnel committee: Jon VanVactor, Jim Masterson and Heath Thornton met with Peters to review the request and recommended a change.

County Auditor Julie Fox said last year the county’s HR consultants, Waggoner Irwin and Scheele established categories and the pay scale which threw off a couple of the positions, the Area Leaders and Heavy Equipment Operators in the highway budgets including the Cum Bridge Fund and the Motor Vehicle Highway Fund.

The County Council approved the amendment moving heavy equipment operators and area leaders to $20.27 per hour, which is a $.35 cent an hour increase from 2020.  The increase took effect on March 8th, the first day of a new payroll period.
