County Council Board January 2021Last week the Marshall County Council approved the requests for additional appropriations for County Sheriff Matt Hassel in the Jail and Community Corrections.

Sheriff Matt Hassel presented several requests for additional appropriations at the County Council meeting.

Hassel told members that during the budget hearing process last year the council reduced the Jail Fund which is in the General Fund.  They told the sheriff to seek additional appropriations from the Special Local Income Tax (LIT) Fund after the first of the year.

Those additionals were $20,000 for wages overtime; $10,000 for wages turnkey/dispatcher; $8,000 for office supplies; $35,000 for prisoner supplies and $30,000 for equipment maintenance contracts.  The request is basically a move from the general fund to the special LIT.

The Council also approved two additional requests for Community Corrections using CARES Act funds.  The first request was $60,000 for personal protection equipment and $42,266.50 for contractual services for the phone app that will allow citizens to be kept up-to-date on information from the County Health Department such as COVID-19 testing and vaccination, County Highway Department for issues like flooded roads or closed roads for trees down or road maintenance and Emergency Management for weather issues and more.

The Council unanimously approved the additional appropriation requests.
