The next Stellar committee meeting is this Thursday morning.
City projects are moving along to the application process with INDOT. The finalized application will be submitted in the next couple of months. These projects included the Extension of the Greenway Trail through River Park Square, the South Michigan railroad viaduct streetscape improvements and the Crossroads Plaza pocket park at the old Subway building at the corner of Michigan and Jefferson Streets.
The Greenway Trail extension would bring a trail from Garro Street through the River Park Square following the riverbank but back from the bank. Also included is a pavilion, natural playground, permanent cornhole, sensory garden, Veterans Memorial Plaza, a synthetic ice rink, proposed sidewalk and some additional angle parking.
The Crossroads Plaza pocket park would recognize the five historic highway crossing Marshall County and will offer a location to rest in the downtown area or even have a picnic lunch. Master Gardeners in the county would assist with plantings and caring for the garden areas.
The South Gateway Improvement Project was designed by RATIO Architects in 2008. Although it hasn’t been revised, the city is interested in making improvements to sidewalks, the walkways under the railroad viaduct, travel lanes, landscaping and parking.
Surrisi said the Plymouth Park Board is working toward moving forward with the River Park Square phase II with the assistance of Mike Reese from the Troyer Group. The Troyer Group is working on the plans currently. This project is scheduled to be submitted and approved in the next few months with construction begin in the good weather this year.
