The press release stated that the vehicle fled the scene but was located a short time after with the suspect in the vehicle.
During the investigation deputies were falsely informed about the events of the accident.
The driver identified as 21 year old Christopher Starr of Elkhart was found to be under the influence of alcohol.
Starr was taken into custody and transported to St. Joseph Regional Hospital for a certified chemical test that showed him to be twice the legal limit of alcohol.
He was transported to the Marshall County Jail where he was held on the charges of Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated-Endangering, Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated, False Informing and Leaving the Scene of a Crash.
Bond for Starr was set at $1,505 but was later released after posting bond with an initial hearing set for December 12th at 8:30 A.M.
