covid testingSaint Joseph Health System (SJHS), in partnership with the Saint Joseph County Board of Commissioners, will move testing for COVID-19 to the St. Joseph County 4-H Fairgrounds. The new location will begin providing testing on Dec. 7, 2020. The new location is a state testing site and the Indiana State Department of Health will text or email the patient the result whether it is positive or negative.

“At our current testing location near Bodnar Boulevard and Elm Road, we have only one testing lane and traffic would occasionally back up onto county roadways,” said Chris Karam, president of SJHS Mishawaka Medical Center. “The fairgrounds allow us to route those waiting in line within the fairgrounds property, increasing overall safety. Also, we can offer two testing lanes at the fairgrounds, improving efficiency, decreasing wait times and increasing the overall number of tests that we can do each day.”

“This is a wonderful partnership between SJHS, the St. Joseph County 4-H Fair and the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners,” said Andy Kostielney, county commissioner – District 2. “Increased access to COVID testing is a critical component to fighting this pandemic, and this collaboration will help us save lives.”

Testing will occur in covered drive-throughs outside the Esther Singer building near Ironwood and Jackson Roads in South Bend. Those requiring a test must enter the fairgrounds through Gate 1 off Ironwood Road near the fairground’s southern boundary. Registration is required before the test and can be completed by visiting the registration link and entering 46614 when asked for a ZIP code.
