The school referendum will increase the property tax rate by no more than $.06 per hundred dollars of assessed valuation for the next eight years. A home with an assessed value of $167,000 will an increase of about $3.81 cents a month.  The referendum will raise just over $300,000 annually.

The additional funds will allow the Bremen Public Schools additional funds for student health services including an additional nurse and student mental health support.

The Superintendent of Bremen Schools, Jim White said they are seeing an uptick in mental illness with younger students.  He said COVID-19 has increased the anxiety level for students and they just don’t have enough support for these students.

Bremen Public Schools currently has two part-time nurses which equates to one full-time nurse for about 1,500 students.  The state of Indiana recommends one full-time nurse per 500 students.  There is also only one counselor for 1,000 elementary/middle school students.
