Plymouth Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt discussed a request to limit parking on the north side of East LaPorte Street and Kingston Avenue during the Board of Public Works and Safety Meeting Monday.
Marquardt spent three days watching the busses at the Lincoln Junior High come and go during the mornings and afternoons. He said 22 buses stop at the school to drop-off or pick-up students and a process that take 15 to 20 minutes. Marquardt said there were never any cars parked on the north side of East LaPorte Street and no vehicles parked on Kingston from Highland Court to the north.
The Street Superintendent said he watched bus drivers assist each other with passing when vehicles were parked on the south said of LaPorte Street.
His recommendation to the Board of Public Works and Safety was to not restrict parking on LaPorte Street and Kingston. He said if issues arise the city could look at the issue again and the Board of Public Works and Safety agreed.
