OWI_Drinking and DrivingOn Sunday, May 10th at approximately 12:30 A.M. Deputy Bennett with the Marshall County Sheriff`s Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of US 30 and Pioneer Drive. The driver identified as 34 year old, Thomas J. Jones of Fort Wayne. During the course of the traffic stop, suspected drugs were located. Thomas Jones was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was taken to Saint Joseph Regional Hospital for a certified test where he was found to have blood alcohol content over twice the legal limit. Jones was booked in the Marshall County Jail on charges of Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Endangering a Person, Operating a Vehicle with a BAC of .15 or More and Possession of a Marijuana and held on no bond.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
