Chelsea Smith was welcomed to the Board of Directors of Marshall County Economic Development Corporation at their most recent meeting. While new to the board, Smith is a familiar face in the community. She is actively involved with several public civic organizations. Smith was appointed as the representative of LaPaz replacing Dr. Don Balka who resigned effective March 1st.

Smith is the current Trustee of North Township in Marshall County, elected for her third term in that position. She also works for 1st Source Bank as a Retail Business Banker. Smith started working for 1st Source Bank in 2008 and has been in her current position since 2018. Previously she was the Small Business Administration Department Manager and Commercial Credit Analyst/SBA Credit Underwriter with 1st Source Bank.

Jerry Chavez, MCEDC President/CEO said, “The diversity she represents, combined with her experience in finance and banking, will be a true asset to our organization. I look forward to her involvement as we continue to make great strides in improving the quality of life in Marshall County.”

Dr. Balka resigns from the board after 13 years of wonderful volunteerism. “His work and standard for excellence over the past 13 years helped lay the foundation for the success MCEDC continues to provide,” said Chavez. “Marshall County led the five-county region in capital investment in 2019 as a result of the strategic plan Dr. Balka helped formulate.”

Smith is a member of the Marshall County Broadband Planning Committee and is currently the Secretary/Treasurer of the United Way of Marshall County Board of Directors. She is also a 2015 graduate of Leadership Marshall County and a former volunteer firefighter with the LaPaz-North Township Fire Department.
