A Mishawaka man died in the crash at US 30 and Fir Road Friday morning, November 1st.
At approximately 9:30 the Marshall County Sheriff`s Department received several 911 calls in regards to the crash.
A preliminary investigation by Patrolman Matt Brown revealed a southbound Toyota Rav 4 driven by 48 year old Kevin M. Halterman failed to yield the right of way to a westbound Jeep Wrangler driven by 27 year old Alyssa Smrt of Knox.
The collision caused the Toyota Rav 4 to cross the grassy median into the eastbound lane before traveling down into the ditch on the south side of US 30. The Rav 4 had extensive driver`s side damage and the driver had to be extricated from the vehicle. Halterman was flown from the scene but died as a result of the injuries he sustained in the crash.
The driver of the Jeep Wrangler, Alyssa Smrt was taken to Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. She was treated and released.
The Marshall County Sheriff`s Department was assisted on scene by Lutheran EMS, Bourbon Police, Bourbon Fire, Tippecanoe Fire, Plymouth Fire and Plymouth EMS.
