Census 2020During the Monday, May 20 commissioner meeting two employees of the US Census Bureau addressed the commissioners to let them know that they are looking for employees to help with the census.

Richard Underkofler of Highland is a recruiter for the US Census. Underkofler told the board that he had been in contact with the County Auditor about the county being far behind in staffing for the census. He said that the census is done in four phases. The first phase is map verification. The hiring for this phase will begin in June with the work commencing in July.

Map Verification consists of traveling the county to update the maps with new residences or subtract any that are no longer being used.

The census will officially get underway in 2020 with the final three phases of distributing the questions, helping the residents answer and submit the questionnaires. Finally census workers will be following up on residences that did not receive a response from.

Underkofler said these jobs are perfect for the retired, or students looking for temporary full-time work.
