jefferson_Robotics_1The Jefferson Elementary School Robotics team 780B in Plymouth competed this past weekend at Lucas Oil Stadium in the Vex Robotics State tournament.

The team ranked 2nd in the finalist rankings with a score of 295, just 10 points behind the leading teams. With this placement, they qualify for the World Championship in Louisville, KY.

Jefferson_Robotics_2This a cooperative tournament where the top 20 individual teams from the morning join forces in teams of two schools to work together to clear their field and score points during a 1 minute time frame in the finalist round. The teams work together and share a score for two schools. The tournament had to add an extra tie-breaker match because Jefferson was tied for 1st with 3 other teams.

Principal Angie Mills said, “It was a very exciting close match and I am proud of their finish as it shows Jefferson students’ ability to stay strong under pressure, quickly form relationships with others to conquer a challenge, and selfless time and effort to get better with every attempt.”  She went on to say,  “I appreciate Mrs. Shidler and Mr. Kallenberg, team coaches for all their hard work. They have supported and inspired students to achieve as a team.”
