City HallMonday evening members of the Plymouth Common Council saw a power-point presentation by City Attorney Sean Surrisi on the issues in City Hall and the proposed renovation project for City Hall and the Chamber building.

The presented was prior them passing a resolution in support of adding the project to the list of projects for TIF District # 1.

The $2.5 million project includes the purchase of the Chamber of Commerce building next door with an agreement to lease the first floor back to the Chamber.   The mayor and his assistant will move up stairs, and the project will create a new, larger (from 49 to 75 seat) council chamber on the second floor, the addition of public restrooms, a new stairway and elevator to the 2nd floor, conference rooms and flex rooms and improvements to the clerk’s office space.  Work will include a new roof and windows, exterior painting and awnings and a new heating and air conditioning system

While final plans are anticipated next week the project is in line with the city’s comprehensive plan.

Surrisi said the Redevelopment Commission will conduct a public hearing on the addition of the project at their meeting on Tuesday, May 16th at 5:30.  If approved the project will go to bid in late June or early July and construction will start later this summer.  It’s anticipated the project will take 10 months to complete.

Funding for the $2.5 million project will be a bond issue with TIF # 1 funds paying the bond over a 10 year period.
