Heartland Gallery logo“Small Wonders” should peak the imagination, what does that mean to you? The definition of wonders is – a cause of astonishment or admiration. That is exactly what the artists have presented with the added requirement the art needs to be within a 12 x 12” perimeter. The challenge to present artwork that will astonish the viewer in any media in a smaller package allows the Small Wonders Show to be uniquely different from other art shows. Heartland Artists Gallery offers this juried show to local artists annually.

Heartland_SmallWonders_birdJudge John Thomas from Walkerton, a well-known and former Art Teacher who built the Art Program at John-Glenn Schools shared these comments about the Small Wonders pieces. “I wish there were more awards given in this show. It would be great to honor the best photograph, collage, and 3D work in this show. Because the majority of work entered was painting, I was considering this media first, but found quality work in all areas and media. There were many works in the show that I considered professional quality. The art I chose for awards was able to stand out in this large group of over eighty pieces of quality art work”.

Prizes will be awarded to the artists this Saturday, May 6 at the Open House Reception from 1:00-4:00 and Award Ceremony at 3:00 pm. The Community is invited to view the Small Wonders Show, meet the artists and share in the refreshments.

The Gallery is proud to announce the Juried Show winners – Best of Show will go to Keith Blanton with his oil painting titled “Red”. First Place to Marilyn Kruger with “Two Gala Apples”, Second Place to Steve Creighton, “Joplin Piece”, and Third Place to Mona Witt with her abstract “Sunset”. There will be a Popular Choice Award given at the end of the month, visitors to the Gallery are invited to cast votes for Popular Choice.
