The Marshall County Highway Department will purchase a new Caterpillar paving machine following the county commissioners’ motion on Monday to sign a sales agreement. This will allow the company to order the new equipment.
Last week the County Council opened two bids for a new paver and MacAllister Machinery Co. was the low bidder at $308, 203. The other bidder was Rudd Equipment Company, a Volvo dealer with a bid of $318,330.
County Highway Supervisor Jason Peters told the council last week the current paver is 17 years old and has substantial repairs needed before it could be put to work this season.
Highway Department Administrator Laurie Baker told the commissioners on Monday the lease purchase financing agreement should be ready for their May meeting. The council elected to purchase the paver through a lease agreement over a seven year period. The new paver is expected to arrive in early June.
When asked what the plans were for the old paver, Peters said he wasn’t sure how he will dispose of it. He was told its value is about $10,000.
