Randy-HeadAs the 2017 legislative session gets underway, lawmakers will be considering a wide range of topics.

Senator Randy Head recently highlighted some of his top priorities for 2017.   They include:

  • Passing another balanced two-year state budget – Fund all of Indiana’s priorities while maintaining our track record of fiscal responsibility
  • Creating a long-term road funding plan – Support our growing economy by creating and funding a plan to maintain and expand our state’s road infrastructure
  • Fighting opioid abuse – Attack the opioid-abuse epidemic with a comprehensive approach that includes prevention, enforcement, treatment and data collection
  • Replacing the outdated ISTEP test – Find a shorter, more effective test to measure student growth and achievement
  • Improving Career and Technical Education (CTE) in the school funding formula and fixing the overall structure of workforce development – Ensure the funding formula for high school CTE courses supports our schools in preparing students for today’s economy and reform Indiana’s workforce development efforts
  • Passing a balanced budget amendment – Give Hoosier voters the chance to add an amendment to our state constitution that would prohibit state spending from exceeding state revenue
