police-shottingThe names of the three police officers involved in the December 21st police shooting of a Plymouth Man in Starke County have been released.

The incident began about 9:20 last Wednesday morning at officers from the Knox Police Department and Starke County Police Department went to 3120 South U.S. 35 to serve an arrest warrant on 46 year old William R. Newman for failure to appear on a parole violation and for dealing and possession of methamphetamine.

The Indiana State Police investigation of the deadly incident say Newman drove a pick-up truck through a garage door and hit a police vehicle and attempted to hit officers with the vehicle.  That’s when officers fired at the truck, hitting Newman.  He was taken to the hospital and died shortly after.

The officers involved in the shooting are the Harold Smith the Knox Chief of Police who’s been with the department for 23 years and Chad Dulin a Corporal with the Knox Police Department for 10 year.

Detective Donald Ferguson with Starke County Sheriff’s was also on the scene.  He’s been with the Sheriff’s Department for 7 years.

No information was released on the status of the officer’s current duty, rather on leave or not.  This incident continues to be investigated.
