The Plymouth Elks Lodge 2548 held its annual Hoop Shoot contest for kids age 8-13, on Dec 4, 2016. The Plymouth Elks Lodge organized the event but with the help of all the elementary, Riverside and Lincoln Jr High school PE teachers, the athletes advanced to the Local event held Dec 4, 2016. The Plymouth High School Girls and Boys Basketball team members along with Plymouth Elks members and Officers hosted the event for all the contestants.
The winners in each category are:
12-13 old Boys – Matt Manzuk and William Gamble
12-13 old Girls – Madie Mann and Tallulah Gault
10-11 old Boys – Trey Delp and Christain Baca
10-11 old Girls – Alydiah Leed and Lexie Myers
8-9 old Boys – Nick Manzuk and Dan Nguyen
8-9 old Girls – Lucy Hayden and Bailey Edmiston
The contest begins at the local level, and winners advance through district, state, regionals culminating at the National Finals in April. During the contest, kids have the opportunity to connect with new friends and learn the importance of respect, like hard work and good sportsmanship that will help them succeed on and off the court. Through each level of competition, contestants support one another and learn to in or accept defeat gracefully.
The Plymouth Elks Lodge 2548 is located on 7B Road just past the Plymouth Rock Golf Course. Open Tues and Wed 4-8 pm. Serving Dinner on Wed from 5-7 with weekly specials for $5.95.
