A man is dead following a SWAT standoff near Lakeville.
It happened at a home on the 21000 block of Osborne Road in St. Joseph County.
According to St. Joseph County Sheriff Michael D. Grzegorek, police were called to do a welfare check on a man under investigation by the Special Victims Unit.
Shortly after police knocked on his door, they heard a gunshot.
The SWAT team was assembled, and after a warrant was issued, officers made their way into the home.
They found the man dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police have not released the man’s name or why he was under investigation.
